Llanelli Youth Theatre has had the privilege to be involved in a very ambitious project this summer, “What Happened Next?” This project has encouraged them not only to develop their acting skills, but has given the opportunity for potential Writers and Directors to write and direct their own plays.
Four writers were asked to write a ten minute script and over 4 weeks the same script was developed each week leaving us with 4 one act plays completed. Each week was a strict ten minute piece and the next week continued from exactly where we left off. The audience played a role each week in helping experiment with ideas for each of the four pieces using specialised rehearsal techniques of Theatre of the Oppressed, and in that way helped move the story in the direction they would like to see it go, although ultimately the writer decided ‘what happened next? At the end of the process the writers have the chance to reflect on and rewrite their plays, which will then be performed later this year, directed by the young directors and performed by LYT Actors. |
